As LCD and Plasma television technology becoming a trend this day, consumers are desperately searching for the right television for themselves. The only question left unanswered was which is more suitable for you? The LCD or the Plasma television? Both have about the same outward appearance, but in fact there are actually using two very different technologies.
Even though both using different kind of technologies there are several factors we can compare by these are screen size availability, motion tracking, burn in, product life span, weight, brightness/contrast, thickness, and power consumption.
Screen Size Availability - Different people have different need, budget, and taste. Those who have the extra bucks tends to choose the bigger screen size. If it is big that you want, well both technologies offered up to 65 inches screen size. Keep in mind, out of the two technologies, LCD is the only technology which offers smaller screen sizes. If you are searching for a screen smaller than 32 inches or so, than LCD is for you.
Motion Tracking - At the moment Plasma have better motion tracking than an LCD does. This simply means that Plasma have little or no motion lag compare to an LCD television. Even though there are slight different in terms of motion tracking, most consumers agreed that the differences shown are not so noticeable.
Burn In - Ever wondered about the after-image ghost your old television produces, that meant that the television had suffers burn in produce by the static images. Plasmas can suffer from burn in while LCDs do not. Even though LCDs are free from burn in, it may suffer "retained pixel charge" which may also produce ghosting. If burn in and retained pixel charge effects your decision in buying ask the tech guy whether it is included in the television warranty.
Product Life Span - In terms of product life span there is no clear winner since both have about the same figures. Both will give you more than 20 or so years of operating. So no worry there.
Weight - If you compare the weight of the same size of Plasma and LCD you will definitely find that the LCD weigh lighter than the Plasma.
Brightness/Contrast - Plasmas have better contrast and able to render even deeper black than the LCDs.
Thickness - Today most of the people try their hardest to look for the slimmest television in the market. In average Plasmas are thicker by one inches with LCDs have the thickness of 2 inches.
Power Consumption - Consumers nowadays are becoming concerns of the money they spend for their monthly electricity bills. At least Malaysian does. Generally the same size LCDs consume lower electricity than an equivalent size of plasma. Keep in mind that Plasmas tend to get hot faster than the LCDs.
To conclude, in choosing between plasmas and LCDs there are several important factors you will need to consider. There is no definite answer in finding your perfect television.
